Meridian, Idaho
Meridian is the newest commercial building stock in the Treasure Valley, and that changes the conversation. Most of what we film here is modern dual-pane low-E glass in buildings built in the last twenty years — a lot of glass area, a lot of natural light, and a lot of unshaded western exposure because the surrounding lots are still open.
New glass does not mean cool glass. Low-E coatings help, but a two-story lobby or a west-facing clinic waiting room in a Ten Mile or Eagle Road building can still be unusable on a July afternoon. Film adds the solar-control layer the original glazing spec left out.
Much of Meridian's commercial development is newer than its landscaping. Without mature trees or neighboring buildings to shade the glass, west and south elevations absorb full sun all afternoon.
Applying the wrong film to low-E dual-pane units can cause thermal stress and seal problems. We check glass type, size, edge condition and orientation before recommending a film, and we spec products the manufacturer approves for that glazing.
Clinics and restaurants along Eagle Road tell us the same thing: the seats by the window go unused in the afternoon. Cutting solar heat gain makes that square footage usable again.
